" (VET) - According
to an estimate the property loss caused by the floodwaters in Mekong Delta
is estimated at up to VND3.7 trillion, of which Dong Thap Province was
hardest hit, sustaining losses of VND832.5 billion and 141 deaths. An Giang
Province suffered 116 deaths and VND746.9 billion in losses; Tien Giang,
39 deaths and VND746.2 billion in losses; and Long An Province, 54 deaths
and damage totaling VND589.2 billion. Moreover, the floods have submerged
370 medical clinics and 2,679 schools with 12,149 classrooms; nearly 828,300
pupils temporarily kept from school. Infrastructure was also badly hit
with nearly 1,100 km of national highways and provincial roads seriously
damaged. About 828,000 houses are still flooded region-wide, and 220,290
households need emergency relief. Nets and boats have been given to 39,662
out of 60,200 households to help restart their lives. Since early
July 429 people, including 302 children have been reported killed from
the floods, according to the National Committee for Floods and Storms Control.
Relief funds totaling VND 176 billion have poured into flood-hit
provinces of the Cau Long (Mekong) Delta, but more funds are needed. The
Vietnam Fatherland Front together with localities and domestic and
international social relief organisations are continuing the donation campaign,
sending more money and goods to Inhabitants of flooded areas.", from Donations
of VND176 billion reached flood-hit Mekong Delta by VET
" (VET)- British
Government's aid funds for Vietnamese flood victims in Mekong Delta have
amounted to £600,000 or equivalent to US$954,000. In October, the
UK Department for
International Development gave the green light to two donations: a US$459,500
package to be implemented by World Vision, and a US$267,000 donation under
the auspices of Care International. The money will be spent on fishing
boats and nets, as well as equipment to support agriculture and aquaculture.
"The aid demonstrates the British Government's commitment to bringing early
and practical relief to disaster victims, " said Warwick Morris, Britain's
ambassador to VN was quoted as saying. The UK is already one of the largest
donors of development assistance to Vietnam, with over US$45 million currently
provided to five development programmes ranging from infrastructure construction
to language teaching.", from UK donations to Vietnamese flood victims by
