Ho Chi Minh City, October 24, 2014 – Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski is visiting Hanoi, Vietnam, October 22-26, where he is engaging with government officials and local civil society representatives. Assistant Secretary Malinowski is discussing the importance of demonstrable progress on human rights to furthering U.S.-Vietnam bilateral ties, including on security assistance and economic cooperation. As part of ongoing dialogue within the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership, Assistant Secretary Malinowski is encouraging Vietnam to ratify the Convention Against Torture and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as soon as possible and to fully implement its international human rights obligations, including under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. From October 27-28, he will visit Seoul, Republic of Korea. # # #
